Turris Shield, Ftrs-sshl05 - Dedicated Firewall (FTRS-SSHL05)
Turris Shield always updated dedicated firewall. Turris dedicated firewall, Marvell Armada 3720 1 GHz dual core, 1× GWAN port (RJ-45), 4× GLAN port (RJ-45), RAM 512 MB DDR3. Turris Shield is a device that, thanks to its unique firewall, protects your entire local network from harmful internet traffic. It is connected between the modem and the router using a standard Ethernet cable.
For whom is intended Turris Shield?
Turris Shield is a perfect device for those looking for an easy set-up device without the need for more complex configuration. Unlike other devices in the Turris family, Turris Shield does not include OpenWrt LuCI interface. Instead of this, there is reForis interface which is optimized for maximum simplicity. If you require detailed setting of all parameters and possibility to customize your device exactly to your ideas, we recommend you to focus on the Turris Omnia or Turris MOX device.
Security
Why does Turris Shield offer more security than other firewalls? The Turris headquarters receives data from thousands of probes all over the world, connected to the internet. Traffic is analysed automatically and if an attack is detected, a firewall update is created and sent to all Turris Shield devices. Traffic analysis is continuous and creating an update only takes a few seconds, which means you are protected even against a newly-discovered attack originating on a different continent. Thus, all the devices in your network are protected - not just your computer, but also smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, game consoles, cameras, printers...
Did you know that...?
3000 attacksper month is the average number of attacks against each router/server | 50 updatesper day is the average number of updates each Turris Shield device receives | 2 secondsis all it takes for Turris to detect an attack and send an update |
Easy configuration
Turris Shield can be configured easily using a user-friendly web interface. This means anyone can make the necessary adjustments.
Indispensable VPN
Turris Shield can also act as a VPN client and as a VPN server. What are the benefits?
- Anonymity and Security - with an encrypted connection, all the devices connected to your network can access the internet with a higher degree of anonymity and security. Your ISP will not be able to track you, with ad targeting being more of a challenge as well.
- Safe connection from anywhere - you can connect to your VPN server even using an untrusted public Wi-Fi connection, for example in cafés, which are often a veritable paradise for hackers.
- No geographical discrimination - thanks to a VPN, it is possible to browse even websites that would otherwise discriminate against users on the basis of the location of the device.
- Single authentication - you do not have to think about logging in to your VPN every single time. You can set it up as automatic just once for all the devices you need.
- Business data protection - the VPN client feature allows businesses to secure sensitive data even when their employees work from home. The IT administrator can easily pre-configure a connection to the corporate network on the device, which means all the employee must do at home is just launch the Turris Shield.
Differences against Turris MOX
Turris Shield is based on MOX (module A + C) but with a modified OpenWRT - Shield contains a simplified guide for installation, where you just enter the user name and password and by default it has an adaptive firewall turned on, which can not be disabled. In terms of visuals, compared to MOX, it is gray with a blue front.
